Who We Are

With clients in New York City and Westchester County, Monterey Associates is an independent, advice-only, fee-for-service investment advisor firm registered in New York State. Monterey Associates always acts in a fiduciary capacity, meaning we are focused solely on our clients’ best interests. Our “advice only” model means no product sales and our fiduciary standard of client care means no commissions, referral fees, rebates, kickbacks or other sources of revenue that can give rise to conflicts of interest. We are paid solely by our clients whose best interests we serve.

Anthea Perkinson CFP®, EA, RMA®, founder and principal at Monterey Associates, became a Certified Financial Planner™ to serve regular people at a reasonable cost. She strongly believes that regular people deserve the same high-quality guidance, investment advice and financial planning serices that private wealth managers provide for much higher fees. In her experience, many people who would benefit from impartial financial expertise are slow to seek it due to barriers like account minimums, asset-based fee schedules and unfamiliar investment terminology.

As a Certified Financial Planner™ Anthea is well-versed in all facets of financial planning and is held to strict ethical standards. She completed her CFP coursework at NYU—-where she also received her undergraduate degree—prior to passing the exam and meeting the professional experience requirements for this credential. Anthea also earned the Enrolled Agent (or EA) designation from the IRS and while she does not actively prepare tax returns, she does provide tax-aware planning and investment advice to clients.

Prior to founding Monterey Associates, Anthea worked in retail financial services for 25 years. Most recently, Anthea was a vice president at AXA Equitable Life (now Equitable Life Insurance Company) responsible for strategic account management for sales of annuities, life insurance and mutual funds.

Anthea is a past president of the Financial Planning Association of New York and a former Co-director of the chapter’s Pro Bono Committee, which is dedicated to providing financial literacy education and counseling to underserved populations in New York City.

As a frequent speaker on personal finance topics, she has presented to audiences at nonprofits including Career Gear, Project Renewal, Dress for Success, Working in Support of Education (W!SE) and Sanctuary For Families. She has conducted classes on personal finance topics at NYU, the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Westchester Community College, The New School, St. Bart’s Church, the West Harlem Development Corporation and Eastside House.
